There’s something wrong with the world today
I don’t know what it is
Something’s wrong with our eyes
We’re seeing things in a different way
And God knows it ain’t his
It sure ain’t no surprise, yeah- Aerosmith
Livin ‘On The Edge by Aerosmith was the first song that I heard when I turned on my playlist today. It felt very appropriate. There is something wrong with our world, but we do know what it is.
Yet, I wonder if we are all in agreement as to what is wrong. The majority of us believe that the US Capital events this week were wrong, but a great many feel like it wasn’t.
I hear a lot of people say that we need to respect differences in opinion; I agree that we need to respect differences in opinion, but what happened in the US isn’t a difference of opinion; it is a type of behavior that we need to be brave enough to say no, we don’t do things this way.
Matters of opinion are solved through debate, presenting evidence, deciding on a choice of action, and moving forward with that choice. Put it this way, if you have two choices and one position, in the end, one person will not be in the position.
What does that mean for me? I believe this- If you do the Christian thing, The apostle Peter said in 1 Peter 2:15-: “For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.
Here is my takeaway- Peter acknowledges that there are foolish people who say ignorant things in this world. Still, the antidote to foolishness is to do good.
If we want to change our culture and lower the room temperature, we all need to devote ourselves to doing good.
Go out today and do something good.
